Christmas comes to Port Aventura

Father Christmas with his helpers, expert Can Can dancers; the Three Kings having a friendly chat with a giant tree, juggling elves and two ice skating rinks right here in the Mediterranean are just some of the ingredients which go to make Christmas at PortAventura something rather different and very, very special.

From 25th November onwards, visitors to this resort on the Costa Daurada can plunge into a magical world filled with light and dreams.

Shows packed with imagination will delight old and young alike. Happy grandparents, proud parents and excited children are sure to enjoy an unforgettable Christmas with a stroll through El Bosque Encantado (The Magic Forest) or a visit to the Gran Teatro to see El Viaje de Clara (Clara’s Journey).

For guests staying at PortAventura’s three hotels, PortAventura, El Paso and Caribe, the fun carries on outside the parks. Dinners with characters, magic shows and jugglers plus very special decorations will immerse the whole family in a fantasy-filled world. In addition, there is winter sports fun for guests at the Hotel Caribe, where the lake becomes a big ice skating rink.

Christmas at PortAventura is a journey filled with dreams and excitement. The adventure begins at El Bosque Encantado (The Magic Forest), with a magical search for Father Christmas’ secret home. A fairytale search which will take many older visitors back to their own childhood.

The dreams continue with El Viaje de Clara (Clara’s Journey), a story in which the young girl from the tale of the Nutcracker Prince tries to find Father Christmas with the help of a wizard and a harlequin, in a journey which is full of surprises. The big star of this fantastic journey is dance, and it features part of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker ballet.

La Travesía de los Reyes Magos (The Voyage of the Three Kings) is another of the big surprises PortAventura has in store for anybody looking for a Christmas with a difference. This is a unique parade of Christmas characters on the lake in Mediterrània, ending in an incredible musical firework display.

Everybody who decides to experience Christmas at PortAventura can also enjoy old favourites like Woody on Ice, Can Can Christmas, el Arbol Parlante (the Talking Tree), the puppet show Un Día Especial (A Special Day) or Bubblebou.

Visitors also have the chance to taste some traditional Christmas treats. All over the park there are plenty of places to try some of the food traditionally associated with this special time of year in these parts, including hot roast chestnuts, baked sweet potatoes or sweet muscatel wine. In addition to this, diners at all the restaurants can enjoy special Christmas menus.

And what’s more, don’t forget that whoever comes to PortAventura has the chance to make a splash in the indoor part of Caribe Aquatic Park.

Christmas lasts until 7th January, when PortAventura closes at the end of its 2006 season. ■ UMWEBSITE.COM

I am planning to come to the Christmas event in the first week of January.

Are all the rides open? What is the weather normally like in January?

Are the shows completely unenjoyable to those with extremely limited use of the local language?

Any other advice for a weary traveller?

All rides are open except Silver River Flume, and two or three small rides (flat rides).

You can enjoy the best shows! El Viaje de Clara, Can Can Christmas (this show have a little part of spanish converstion), Woody on Ice, La Llegada de los Emisarios Reales, Christmas Country Band and Penitence Christmas Band haven't language. Only El Arbol Parlante (Storyteller) and Un dia Especial (Puppets) ara a spanish conversation.

Hello andybeard. All the rides are opened except Silver River Flumme (aquatic ride). About the weather, I can say it will been cold, though the weather is a bit unstable.
