PortAventura ended Halloween 2006 having received a total of 450,150 visitors, up 19% on 2005. These are PortAventura's best results since it began celebrating the holiday. Halloween mainly drew Spanish visitors. In total, 50% of all visitors to the park were Catalan, 22% were from elsewhere in Spain and the remaining 28% were foreigners.

Commenting on these data, José Blanco, PortAventura's sales and marketing director, said, 'We had a stellar Halloween. The results far exceeded our expectations. Our goal now is to continue exceeding them in coming years.' He went on, 'We have received excellent feedback from our guests, which makes us proud and encourages us to keep striving to ensure that each new Halloween is a resounding success.'

Slowly but surely, Halloween is catching on in Spain, which is why PortAventura has continued to incorporate new and diverse shows and attractions each year related to the holiday. The most popular with visitors this year were El diablo dijo sí, a fearsome show in La Cantina in Mexico, and La selva del miedo, a mysterious outdoor stroll through the pitch black in the company of ghouls and goblins.

Also worth noting are the resort hotels' excellent results for the period, with an overall occupancy rate of over 60% despite being the off season. To this end, Hotel Burn, the thematic accommodations set up in Hotel el Paso, comprised of haunted rooms, spooky décor and characters out of an eerie, abandoned mansion, deserves special mention and was fully booked on weekends. 85% of the hotel’s guests said they would recommend it.

The profile of Halloween visitors includes both families who come to PortAventura for an unforgettable stay in the company of loved ones and groups of friends seeking new thrills, who do not think twice before trying out the most bloodcurdling attractions on offer during the festivities.

Next 25th November will mark the start of the Christmas season, which will last until the park’s close on 7th January and will include several new attractions and shows with traditional Christmas themes sure to delight children and adults alike. ■ UMWEBSITE.COM
